Is Google Experimenting with Placing Ads Among Organic Search Results?
Reports have emerged suggesting that Google is experimenting with the placement of ads within the traditional organic search results. Patrick Stox, Ahrefs product advisor, technical SEO expert, and brand ambassador, first observed sponsored posts appearing in positions that have historically been occupied by the third and fifth organic search results.
Why This Matters. If Google decides to expand this experiment, it could potentially result in more clicks for advertisers within areas traditionally reserved for organic content in Google Search. However, this development may present challenges for SEO professionals, as it aligns with Google’s ongoing trend of reducing organic search real estate. Additionally, it could negatively impact users who have already voiced concerns about the quality of Google Search results, potentially leading to less satisfactory user experiences.
Google’s Response. When asked about this, Google’s Ads Liaison, Ginny Marvin, neither confirmed nor denied the experiment. She did not label it as a bug, stating, “We’re regularly experimenting and don’t have anything more to share at this point.
